Boss Audio Systems CE1250M 1250-Watt Mosfet Monoblock Power Amplifier with Remote Subwoofer Level Control Review

This is the first amp I have ever bought. I decided on this model because of the MOSFET circuitry, the power rating, the amplifier class and the price. I got it to power two Cerwin Vega HED 128 8 ohm SVC subs. The two subs were wired to 4 ohms and put in a sealed twin sub box in the trunk. The amp is mounted to the back seat in the trunk and it is cranking out earth shaking power with little extra heat. Not sure why some of the reviews say it gets hot, unless they are running at 2 ohms with lots of high volume. No problems at all at 4 ohms.

I have a Kenwood DNX6190HD DVD with 50 watts per channel peak and have the subs set at -1 to +1 power from the unit most of the time. As for the +18 db switch, I don't ever need that past half way. That's really all the power the subs need with this amp playing with 4 Alpine speakers in the car. The Kenwood sub setting goes to +10 but that couldn't even be possible if I was in the car...
or within a 1/10th of a mile of the car!

Just for grins, I found an empty parking lot, set the subs at +6 power, the volume at 30 out of 36 on the DVD and played the THX intro/Sub Test track. The rear view mirror was shaking so much I couldn't see out the back, the whole car was shaking and my ears might have bled a little. Then I put X-Men 2 in and started the movie and it felt like I was part of the movie. WOW is all I can say. I wanted to stay there and watch the rest of the movie, but I might have woke the dead and didn't want to deal with zombies.

The two Cerwin Vega's are rated at 300 watts peak each and the specs on the BOSS say 375 watts X one channel. This amp is MORE than adequate to power both of them. I can't see how anyone would need more power for two 12's unless you got competition subs. You can't beat this BOSS amp for the price. I listen mostly to Metal, Classic Rock, Tool, Metallica, 5 Finger Death Punch, Disturbed, the amazing Frank Zappa, even Beethoven and Stravinsky. I'm in my 50's, grew up on Black Sabbath, Jeff Beck, Zappa, Led Zeppelin, etc. and still like my music loud... this amp did the trick!
