Product Description
The control box, sensors and display connector are all waterproof. Because of this factor the control box can be installed in places on the vehicle that are not 100% fully protected from the environment. AutoZonic can be installed into your vehicle without sacrificing the beauty and attention you have placed in your vehicle. The AutoZonic system is a safety device that accurately detects all objects, as children, toys, pets, another autos, etc. that are behind your vehicle while you back up. The beeping as well as LCD display inside the car warns the driver of the danger and prevents a potential accident. But, the most important thing is that by installing this system you can prevent injuries to adults or worse children. The sensors come in many different colors so that they blend perfectly with the color of your vehicle.Autozonic Backup Parking Sensors with Display Charcoal and Silver Sensors Review
Installing this thing was not easy. The instructions are for a car or SUV with a trunk. I installed on my pickup truck, so it took some extra work. The really big thing you need to know is that this comes with a drill bit that is exactly the size of the sensors!!! The first thing that frustrated me is that I could not find the diameter of the hole I had to drill, until I noticed they included the hole boring bit in the box. That worked very well, but it is a very noisy thing to drill those holes in your vehicle. Also, I had some trouble finding the correct wires under the truck, I actually ended up running some 18 gauge wire from the backup lamp, which is what you are supposed to do anyways, down to the mounting location. The problem is that I had to supply the extra wire because this device is intended to be installed near your backup lamp (not under your truck, which is where I installed mine). The cord to the driver's dash is plenty long enough. I think I had a little extra on my F-150 installation. The only cord that I had to supply was about 5' (box positive and negative - two wires - like in any electrical item: lamp, toaster, and so on).
Finally, I want you to know that you are not going to get something that measures inches. It measures in 4.0, 3.5, 3.0, 2.5, 2.0 (and probably 1.0 and 1.5, but I have yet to see that). This device is not for parking as absolutely close to something as you can get or to help you back in just right for your trailer. It is a "don't crash into that object behind you" warning device. That is mainly what I wanted, but I was hoping for more precision as well, like I actually wanted to use it for backing up just perfectly to my trailer. That is not a good use for this device. If you want to do that, then you will likely want one of those backup cameras.
Still, this is going to keep me from running into things - as I have been doing.
Oh, and one more thing, it gets power from the reverse light cable, so it is only on when you are in reverse. I think that is good because I don't need to know how close people are behind me in traffic :-) Again, if that is what you want, well, you could wire this thing differently (like into your light system, then turn on your lights), but I am sure you would quickly tire of hearing the warnings at a stoplight. Essentially, I am telling you that this device was intended only to keep you from backing into things and for that I think it does a good job.
No problems with the device mounted under my truck either. It is functioning just fine.
