I searched everywhere for a good pump for drinkable water to go with my water barrels, and I decided to try this one. It turned out to be a really good idea. This pump is fantastic.
First of all, it is not made of plastic. It is glass-filled propylene. There are glass beads and glass powder mixed together with the plastic part to form a new material with new properties. This material is as sturdy as aluminum but does not get corroded or rusted like metal does. Indeed, this pump is rated for both water-based and petroleum-based fluids.
Second, you can really crank this pump and get a high flow out of it. I can drain a 30 gallons barrel in 5 minutes. This is very fast.
Third, in the picture you can only see a one-foot suction extension , but the pump is actually shipped with 3 extensions and also with a restrainer to fit the bottom of the extension and filter the incoming water. So, it is really easy to adapt this pump to most barrels and most uses.
Finally, the pump weights 7 pounds, it is solid, and very well built and finished.
It is hard to imagine a better hand pump than this one.
