I have an older model made by the company that Saddlemen bought out. This one is pretty much the same; bought it for my wife so we have two. I rarely go on a day ride without it now. In fact, the only time I go on a day ride without it is when I forget to put it on. And I sure notice after about 100 miles. The wife won't go 10 feet on the bike without it.

About the retaining strap: Throw it away. It will only frustrate you and be marginally useful. The bottom of the pad is rubberized so it stays in place without anything holding it there. Sometimes I might have to adjust it a bit, but yea, chuck the strap UNLESS you're putting the pad on a smaller back seat. Then you might need to tie it down. Even then, the strap design is pretty clunky. I set up the back seat with a different strap.

The gel is great; you can pay more but you won't get much more. The sheepskin stuff whatever is comfortable, durable and washable. I have removed mine and washed several times.

I think this is a pretty good contender in a crowded sead pad market.
